    POSITION PURPOSE:

    The Unit Secretary ensures that the non-direct patient care aspects of the hospital nursing unit run smoothly.  Main duties include clerical and secretarial tasks such as answering phones, sending faxes, making copies, ordering and organizing supplies and filing. Other duties include scheduling tests and procedures for patients and keeping the medical chart organized and additional duties as assigned. The work setting is the patient care units in the hospital.

    Qualifications

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Licenses or Certifications:  CPR Certification

     

    Total Education, Vocation Training, and Experience:  High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.  Medical terminology and proficient computer skills (word and excel). One year of unit secretary experience preferred. 2-3 years unit clerical experience using Microsoft word and Excel required.

     

    Skills and Abilities

    Must have a professional appearance and be polite and courteous even during busy times and interruptions.  The ability to do multiple tasks at once is crucial. Must be flexible and able to function as a resource to members of the health care team, and be familiar with the hospital and the resources available to customers

     

    PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION:

    Position has Full Access to Protected Health Information of patients on caseload.
